Postage Up 2% on April 26

The U.S. Postal Service wasted no time in requesting a postal rate hike. On January 15, USPS filed a notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission for a nearly 2 percent increase to take place on April 26.

The timing for the inflation-based increase appears to coincide with the expiration of its exigent rate increase, which the PRC says USPS needs to stop after it brings in the $3.2 billion meant to help make up for losses during the Great Recession.

The Latest on Letters - Surprising Facts on Mail Volume

If you were to take a quick guess, would you say the volume of letters delivered in the last quarter by the U.S. Postal Service has risen or fallen?

Recent USPS data shows that both First-Class, single piece letter mail volume and revenue ticked north for the Postal Service’s third quarter - the highest percentage third quarter year-over-year increase in the past five years. As the U.S. economy has improved, letter volume and revenue have increased. As more businesses emerge from years of belt-tightening, USPS is helping them to expand their operations, reach more customers, manage their accounts, issue invoices and receive payments – all of which has had a positive impact on USPS mail volume.

DM News reports that ninety-two percent of marketing and customer insight decision makers say their companies have taken a greater interest in personalization compared to last year, according to “The Personalization Imperative,” a study conducted by Forrester Consulting.
